Rogue Runes and Their Locations in Season of Discovery

In World of Warcraft's Season of Discovery (SoD), runes play a crucial role in enhancing or entirely reshaping your class's gameplay. This comprehensive guide provides all the essential details on the locations of all Rogue runes in the Season of Discovery, offering a detailed overview of the effects they bestow provide to players.

Season of Discovery Phase 2 Rogue Runes

During the second phase of the Season of Discovery, Rogues now have access to 6 completely new runes. These runes cover a diverse range of abilities that most rogues wouldn’t want to miss out on. Here is the list of all of them, and where you can find them.

Poisoned Knife

Poisoned Knife is an ability that requires Melee WeaponInstantly throw your off-hand weapon to deal normal off-hand weapon damage with a 100% chance to apply the poison from your off-hand weapon to the target. Awards 1 combo point. Poisoned Knife benefits from all talents and effects that trigger from or modify Sinister Strike.

Where to find:

Travel to Desolace and accept the Highway Robbery quest in Desolace at an Extinguished Campfire at /way 47 54.
Travel to /way 63 39 and turn the quest in to Bibbly F'utzbuckle. Accept the quest called On the Lam.
Travel to the inn in Booty Bay. Turn in your quest in Tokal, and pick up Cherry for Your Thoughts?. Buy Cherry Grog. Travel to the next part of your quest: No Honor Among Thieves.
Travel to Arathi Highlands and find a Rowboat under the bridge at /53 91 on the Arathi Highlands map. Interact with the boat and you will be teleported to the eastern shore.
Locate Illari Duskfeather and engage her in conversation. She will present two equally hostile dialogue options. Upon selecting one, she will initiate combat. Defeat her in battle, retrieve the dropped bag, and loot Illari's Key. Then, use the key to unlock the Jewel-Encrusted Box and obtain the Rune stored within.

Shadowstep

Shadowstep allows you to step through the shadows and reappear behind your enemy and increases movement speed by 70% for 3 sec.

Where to find:

Upon reaching level 30, a Letter from "C" will arrive to your mailbox, detailing a task that's "a tad more intricate than your previous venture into Shadowfang Keep." will start a quest called "The Eye of Bhossca"

Travel to Pyrewood Village and find a Dead Drop at /way #1421 47.1 71.1.
Loot the chest to pickup the quest that is also called “The Eye of Bhossca”
Head to the backside of the Scarlet Monastery in Tirisfal Glades and locate a Supply Locker inside the stable at /way 81.2, 32.1. Unlock the locker (requires Lockpicking 100) to obtain the Scarlet Initiate's Uniform. Put it on and enter the outer area of Scarlet Monastery. Remember, the disguise only functions within the Scarlet Monastery instance and not while in a group.
Pick Pocket Scarlet Scryer in the Graveyard to take Scryer's Key from him.
Enter the Library wing and search for the Personal Letterbox inside the Athanaeum.
Use the Scryer's Key to unlock it and acquire a Confidential Message.
Enter the Graveyard wing and /sit on a bench in the Forlorn Cloister. Then, move across the room and sit on the bench on the opposite side.
Make a right turn (north on your minimap) and search within one of the mausoleum niches to loot the Stone Coffer. Inside, you'll find a Reliquary Key.
Head back to the Library wing and proceed to the Gallery of Treasures. Use the Reliquary Key to unlock the Padlocked Reliquary and acquire the Eye of Bhossca. Afterward, return to Pyrewood Village and deposit the Eye into the Dead Drop chest.
Return to a major city (not a village or settlement) and check your mailbox.
Re-visit Dead Drop to get your rune!

Shuriken Toss

Shuriken Toss Throw a shuriken at your enemy dealing damage equal to 15% of your Attack Power, and also strike up to 4 additional nearby targets. Awards 1 combo point.

Where to find:

Travel to Swamp of Sorrows at these coordinates: /way 42, 30. You'll encounter a Swamp of Sorrows Dart Stalker attached to a tree. Be cautious as it will fire a Poison Dart if you get too close in front of it. Use Disarm Trap on it to trigger a Conspicuous Cache to appear. Loot this cache to obtain the Rune.

Rolling with the Punches

Rolling with the Punches Each time you Dodge or Parry, you gain 6% increased Health, stacking up to 5 times.

Where to find:

Travel to Camp E'Thok in Thousand Needles. Seek out the largest tent located at coordinates (/way 18.5 20.9). Inside this tent, along the right wall, lies a Sizable Stolen Strongbox, harboring additional chests within. Open these nested chests one by one, each with an increasingly demanding Lockpicking requirement, starting with the Large Strongbox. Continue until you reach the Small Strongbox, from which you'll finally secure this Rune.

Waylay

Waylay Your Ambush and Backstab hits unbalance your target, increasing the time between their melee attacks by 10%, and reducing movement speed by 50% for 8 sec.

Where to find:

Travel to Deadwind Pass and speak with the Dalaran Agent at /way #1430 52 35 to receive Ariden's Sigil.
Equip the Sigil and then find and kill seven Dark Rider Elites after using this sigil to reveal them. This will reward you with Dalaran Relics. You will know if Dark Rider is nearby by having a Dark Presence buff. Here is the list with locations of Dark Riders.
Deadwind Pass: At /way #1430 43 29. Drops Curious Dalaran Relic.
Duskwood: At /way #1431 23 47. Drops Glittering Dalaran Relic.
Swamp of Sorrows: At /way #1435 69 28. Drops Odd Dalaran Relic.
Arathi Highlands: At /way #1417 60 40. Drops Whirring Dalaran Relic.
Badlands: At /way #1418 58 54. Drops Slippery Dalaran Relic.
The Barrens: At /way #1413 52 36. Drops Heavy Dalaran Relic.
Desolace: At /way #1443 65 25). Drops Creepy Dalaran Relic.

After turning in all the runes you will receive a quest called A Service to Dalaran. You will receive a Supply Bag as a reward. The rune is inside.

Master of Subtlety

Master of Subtlety Attacks made while stealthed and for 6 seconds after breaking stealth cause an additional 10% damage.

Where to find:

Make your way to Kurzen's compound in northern Stranglethorn Vale. You'll notice a stone tower within the compound, with a cave to the north of it.
Enter the stone tower where you'll discover Wendel Mathers confined in a cage (/way 44.2 8.0). Engage him in conversation, and he'll request you to retrieve the Compound Cage Key to secure his freedom.
Inside the cave, pickpocket Kurzen mobs until you find the Compound Cage Key.
Additionally, within the cave, keep an eye out for a Kurzen Supply Crate. You'll require 125 lockpicking skill to open it. Don't forget to loot its contents.
After acquiring the Compound Cage Key, make your way back to the tower and use it to unlock Wendel Mathers' cage, granting him his freedom.
Head back to Booty Bay and locate Captain Aransas. You can find her at coordinates /way 27.8 76.6, stationed on the lower fishing platform.

Talk to Captain Aransas to claim Captain Aransas' Reward, which includes the desired Rune. As an added bonus, you'll also receive Jani's Charm.

Season of Discovery Phase 1 Rogue Runes

In the initial phase of Season of Discovery (SoD), there was added a total of 12 runes accessible to Rogues. It is advisable to acquire all of these runes, considering that their quantity expands in the subsequent phases of the game. Below is a list encompassing all 12 runes that were become available in the first phase.

Deadly Brew

Deadly Brew Grants several improvements to your poisons:

When you inflict any other poison on a target, you also inflict Deadly Poison.
If your weapon does not have a poison applied, it has a chance to trigger Instant Poison as if Instant Poison were applied.
Deadly Poison and Instant Poison now gain increased damage from your Attack Power.

Where to find:

Reach level 20 and you will receive a letter “An Offer” from “C”.
Travel to Pyrewood in Silverpine Forest. Find a chest inside a hut located near the entrance.
Loot the chest to start a quest called The Horn of Xelthos.
Travel to coordinates 58, 52 in the Stonetalon Mountains to find Veenix.
Obtain Venture Co. Work order by stealing or looting it from Venture Co. Operators and bring it to Veenix.
Use the Breaching Charge that you just got from Veenix to open closed gates in the Shadowfang Keep dungeon. For this to work you have to be alone.
Pickpocket two elite mobs in the dungeon – Gemela in the ballroom and Gefell in the corridor next to the ballroom. Receive a key from each.
Combine both keys into one Twin Key.
Go all the way back to the stables and find a chest there.
Open the chest and loot the Horn of Xelthos.
Travel all the way back to the hut in Pyrewood and turn in the quest The Horn of Xelthos.
Enter any major city to get another letter. Return to the hut in Pyrewood yet again to receive the rune.

Just a Flesh Wound

Just a Flesh Wound makes it so you take 20% reduced Physical damage while Blade Dance is active. You have a 6% reduced chance to be critically hit by melee attacks, the threat generated by all your actions is massively increased, and your Feint ability is replaced with Tease, which Taunts the target to attack you.

Where to find:

Turn in supply shipments. Once you achieve an “Honored” reputation with your faction, you will be able to buy this rune from your faction’s reputation vendor for 4 gold and 50 silver.

Slaughter from the Shadows

Slaughter from the Shadows Reduces the energy cost of your Backstab and Ambush abilities by 20 and the energy cost of your Hemorrhage by 5, and increases all damage done by 5%.

Where to find:

This rune can be found in different starting zones.

Dun Morogh: You can find this rune inside a chest located on top of the Inn in Kharanos. Stand in front of the building, head left, and ascend the mountain to reach it.
Elwynn Forest: Ascend the crates to reach the rooftop of the house located north of the Inn in Goldshire. Once there, you'll discover a chest containing the rune.
Teldrassil: Eliminate Furbolgs within Ban’ethil Borrow Den to obtain a key. Loot the key and use it to unlock a chest within Ban’ethil. Keep in mind that the chest's spawn location appears to be random.
Durotar: Loot a chest in Drygulch Ravine.
Tirisfal Glades: Retrieve the Agamand Relic Coffer Key from mobs in close proximity to the Agamand Family Crypt. Utilize the Agamand Relic Coffer Key to unlock a chest within the Agamand Family Crypt.

Main Gauche

Main Gauche makes you instantly strike with your off-hand weapon for normal off-hand weapon damage and increases your chance to parry by 10% for 10 sec. Awards 1 combo point. Main Gauche benefits from all talents and effects that trigger from or modify Sinister Strike.

Where to find:

At level 20 travel to Ratchet and find an NPC called Grizzby. You will need to complete 3 quests for him, which are mostly about gathering various items. Those items are:

16x Shredder Turbocharger: You can get this by using the Shredder Autosalvage Unit on Venture Co. Light Shredder.
20x Dark Iron Ordinance: This item can be found as a drop from Dark Iron Dwarves in Wetlands.
24x Fish Oil: This item can be found as a drop from Murlocs and Naga of level 25 and higher.

After completing these quests the rune will become available for purchase from Grizzby for 5 gold.

Mutilate

Mutilate makes you instantly attack with both weapons for 100% weapon damage plus an additional (100 / 100 *) with each weapon. Damage is increased by 20% against Poisoned targets. Awards 2 combo points. Mutilate benefits from all talents and effects that trigger from or modify Backstab unless otherwise specified.

Where to find:

This rune can be found in different starting zones.

Dun Morogh: Pickpocket Dark Iron Dwarves located to the south of Helmsbed Lake until you acquire Blackrat's Note. Once obtained, deliver Blackrat's Note to Blackrat at coordinates 57, 45.
Elwynn Forest: Pickpocket Garrick Padfoot at coordinates 57, 47 to acquire Cutty's Note. After obtaining it, deliver Cutty's Note to Cutty, located at coordinates 50, 51.
Teldrassil: Loot from Lord Melenas at 51 | 50.
Durotar: Pickpocket the Burning Blade Thug situated north of Razor Hill to obtain a note. Subsequently, deliver the note to Ba'so in Durotar at coordinates 52, 59.
Tirisfal Glades: Pickpocket Captain Perrine at coordinates 52, 67. Once successful, take the obtained ring to the town hall in Brill to forge a document. Finally, bring the forged document to Jamie Nore in Brill at 61, 51.

Envenom

Envenom is a finishing move that deals instant poison damage based on your Deadly Poison doses on the target. Following the Envenom attack you have a 75% increased frequency of applying Instant Poison for 1 sec plus an additional 1 sec per combo point. One dose is activated per combo point:

1 dose: [( * 100 / 100) * 1 + Attack power * 0.09] damage.
2 doses: [( * 100 / 100) * 2 + Attack power * 0.18] damage.
3 doses: [( * 100 / 100) * 3 + Attack power * 0.27] damage.
4 doses: [( * 100 / 100) * 4 + Attack power * 0.36] damage.
5 doses: [( * 100 / 100) * 5 + Attack power * 0.45] damage.

Where to find:

Head to Durnholde Keep in Hillsbrad Foothills and locate a vendor situated behind the building where Tog'thar is found, around coordinates 80, 40.

Purchase Hot Tip for 75 Silver from the vendor and open it. Inside, you will find a map and Safe Combination.
Next, follow the river north until you reach the Western Plaguelands. Look for a waterfall, and at the bottom of it, you'll discover a chest.
Open the chest using the Safe Combination and find Envenom inside.

Blade Dance

Blade Dance is a finishing move that increases your Parry chance. Lasts longer and grants more Parry chance per combo point:

1 point: 14 seconds, 6% Parry;
2 points: 18 seconds, 7% Parry;
3 points: 22 seconds, 8% Parry;
4 points: 26 seconds, 9% Parry;
5 points: 30 seconds, 10% Parry.

Where to find:

This rune can be found in different level 10 zones.

Loch Modan: Pickpocket Dark Iron Dwarves until you acquire a Dark Iron Lockbox. To open the Dark Iron Lockbox and obtain Blade Dance, ensure you have the Lockpicking skill at level 1.
Westfall: Pickpocket Defias bandits to discover an envelope guiding you to a chest at the entrance of the Deadmines. Open the chest to obtain the rune.
Darkshore: Farm Naga in the Cliffspring River cave until you acquire a key. Proceed to the end of the cave, where you'll find a ledge occupied by three mobs and a chest. Unlock the chest using the obtained key to reveal the contents, including Blade Dance.
The Barrens: Pickpocket the Southsea Cannoneer located south of Ratchet until you acquire the Buccaneer's Matchbox. Proceed to the camp on the hill at coordinates 62, 44. Look for a gunpowder keg at 62, 46 and interact with it to trigger an explosion. Subsequently, open the chest that appears as a result to obtain this rune.

Saber Slash

Saber Slash makes you viciously slash an enemy for 130% weapon damage, and cause the target to bleed for (Attack power * 5 / 100) damage every 2 sec for 12 sec, stacking up to 3 times. Awards 1 combo point. Saber Slash benefits from all talents and effects that trigger from or modify Sinister Strike.

Where to find:

This rune can be found in different level 10 zones.

Loch Modan: You can find it in a toolbox on a platform located at the Stonewrought Dam in the north. This platform is situated behind some quest-givers.

Westfall:

Head to the hill behind the Sentinel Hill Inn, where you'll encounter an Elite Defias Scout. The scout possesses the Escape Plan buff, prompting him to flee at the first sign of danger.
Sneak to avoid detection and successfully pilfer from the Defias Scout. This approach will enable you to execute the task without triggering the scout's escape response.

Darkshore: In a confined space nestled between the roots of the trees near Auberdine Lighthouse.

The Barrens:

Navigate to Northwatch Hold and enter through the main gate. Once inside, turn left, and you'll notice a stable with a chest situated on its roof.
To reach the chest, head to the right and leap onto the wall behind the stable. From this vantage point, you can make a jump to reach the roof. Ensure your Lockpicking skill is at level 80 to successfully open the chest.

Silverpine Forest: Proceed to the entrance of Shadowfang Keep. Use Sprint to quickly reach the small platform located at coordinates 45, 67.

Shiv

Shiv Instantly attack with your off-hand weapon to deal normal off-hand weapon damage with a 100% chance to apply the poison from your off-hand weapon to the target. Where to find:

Pickpocket Defias Night Runner at Yorgen’s Farm at 50, 73 in Duskwood until you obtain the Engraved Gold Ring.
Head to the cemetery north of Raven Hill.
Equip the Engraved Gold Ring.
Kneel in front of the statue in the Raven Hill cemetery at coordinates 20, 46. This action should lead to obtaining Shiv.

Shadowstrike

Shadowstrike makes you teleport behind your target and strike, causing 150% weapon damage to the target. Must be stealthed. Awards 1 combo point.

Where to find:

You can get this rune in different ways depending on which race you’ve decided to play as.

Human: Initiate a level 2 quest "Thrice Stolen" from Jorik Kerridan at Northshire in Elwynn Forest. He is located at 51, 40. After acquiring the quest, travel to 53, 52 and loot the chest.
Dwarf, Gnome: Get the quest “Thrice Stolen” from Solm Hargrin in Dun Morogh at 28, 68. Loot an object at 30, 80 in a cave.
Night Elf: Get a quest called "Second-Story Work" by talking to Frahun Shadewhisper in Teldrassil at coordinates 60, 39. As part of the quest objectives, go to the location on the roof at 59.8, 42.5 and loot the specified object.
Orc, Troll: Initiate the level 2 quest "Atop the Cliffs” by speaking with Rwag in Durotar at coordinates 42, 68. Once you have the quest, locate the chest situated on a cliff as part of the quest objectives.
Undead: To begin the level 2 quest "The Scarlet Rune" by talking to David Trias at 33, 66 in Tirisfal Glades. After obtaining the quest, head to the southeast of the starting zone and either defeat or pickpocket Scarlet enemies as outlined in the quest objectives.

Between the Eyes

Between the Eyes is a Ranged Finishing move that causes damage per combo point, increased by Attack Power, and Stuns the target:

1 point: [53 / 100 * ( + )] to [81 / 100 * ( + )] damage, 1 sec Stun;
2 points: [53 / 100 * ( +* 2)] to [81 / 100 * ( +* 2)] damage, 2 sec Stun;
3 points: [53 / 100 * ( +* 3)] to [81 / 100 * ( +* 3)] damage, 3 sec Stun;
4 points: [53 / 100 * ( +* 4)] to [81 / 100 * ( +* 4)] damage, 4 sec Stun;
5 points: [53 / 100 * ( +* 5)] to [81 / 100 * ( +* 5)] damage, 5 sec Stun;

Cooldown shared with Kidney Shot.

Where to find:

This rune can be found in different starting zones.

Dun Morogh: You can find a chest outside the Rogue Trainer area in the Forlorn Cavern within Ironforge. To locate it, go to the right of the stairs where there is a niche containing the chest. Be cautious, as opening the chest will trigger the spawn of two level 10 mobs that will attack you. Be prepared for a battle when you decide to open the chest in this location.
Elwynn Forest: In Stormwind, within the Cutthroat Alley, you'll find a house at the end. Go upstairs and open the chest. Be aware that upon opening the chest, two level 10 enemies will ambush you, so be prepared for a fight. Exercise caution and make sure you are ready for combat before interacting with the chest in this location.
Teldrassil: Acquire a key by pickpocketing or defeating Gnarlpine-type enemies. Proceed to the coordinates 38, 82.5 and use the key to open a stash found at that location.
Durotar: You can find a chest in The Drag in Orgrimmar, approximately around coordinates 56, 45. Be cautious when opening the chest, as doing so will trigger the spawn of three mobs that will attack you. Be prepared for combat when interacting with the chest in this location.
Tirisfal Glades: Head to the northeast beach and pickpocket Murlocs until you obtain a key. Once you have the key, dive underwater to the coordinates 66, 26 and use it to open a chest submerged in that location.

Quick Draw

Quick Draw makes you draw your ranged weapon and fire a quick shot at an enemy, causing normal ranged weapon damage and reducing the target's movement speed by 50% for 6 sec. Awards 1 combo point. Quick Draw benefits from all talents and effects that trigger from or modify Sinister Strike.

This rune can be found in different starting zones.

Dun Morogh: Collect four pieces of a Dun Morogh Treasure Map. You can find them by looting various enemies in the area.
Elwynn Forest: Collect four pieces of an Elwynn Treasure Map. You can find them by looting various enemies in the area. Use the map which will lead you to the chest that contains the rune at 80, 79.
Teldrassil: Collect four pieces of a Teldrassil Treasure Map. You can find them by looting various enemies in the area. Use the map which will lead you to the chest that contains the rune in Rut’theran.
Durotar: Collect four pieces of a Durotar Treasure Map. You can find them by looting various enemies in the area. Use the map which will lead you to the chest that contains the rune in Echo Isles.
Tirisfal Glades: Collect four pieces of a Tirisfal Treasure Map. You can find them by looting various enemies in the area. Use the map which will lead you to the chest that contains the rune at 53, 54. It will be under the bridge.
