World of Warcraft Forever Warlock Class Guide
This World of Warcraft Forever Warlock overview covers everything that changed for the class. It covers the Warlock's strengths and weaknesses, the systemic class changes that apply to every spec, how Affliction, Demonology, and Destruction each evolved, the talent changes across all three trees, the best professions and gear priorities, and which races make the strongest Warlocks.
WoW Forever Warlock Strengths and Weaknesses
The Warlock's core strengths are unmatched group utility and sustained damage that now scales with critical strikes, while its main weaknesses are fragile cloth defenses and the effort of managing pets, Soul Shards, and health.
Strengths:
- Unmatched group utility through Healthstones, Soulstone resurrections, and Ritual of Summoning
- Damage-over-time spells that can now critically strike and tick while you cast other spells
- Self-sufficiency through Life Tap and demons that scale with your gear
- Strong crowd control and PvP pressure through Fear and a wide set of curses
Weaknesses:
- Cloth armor leaves the class fragile, with limited mobility and few defensive moves
- Damage-over-time spells need time to pay off against targets that die quickly
- Pet management, Soul Shards that do not stack, and aggressive Life Tap use all demand attention
- Haste does not speed up damage-over-time or channeled spells, which lowers its value for some specs
Warlock Class Changes in WoW Forever
Warlock receives eight systemic changes in WoW Forever that apply to every spec, centered on critical strikes for periodic damage, the new Bane split, and demons that scale with gear.
- Damage-over-time spells can now critically strike and recalculate on every tick, so buffs apply as each tick lands, the 16-debuff cap is gone, and Hellfire can now critically strike
- Curses and Banes are now separate: Curse of Agony and Curse of Doom became Bane of Agony and Bane of Doom, so a target can carry one Bane and one utility Curse at the same time
- Life Tap now scales with Spirit instead of Spell Power, adding one point of health cost and mana gained per point of Spirit before talents, and at level 6 its first rank converts roughly a third of your health
- Demons scale with your stats and gear instead of falling behind, pets gain a Move To command for positioning, and Aggressive Mode is back under the pet tab of the spell book, and the Voidwalker's Sacrifice shield scales with 10% of your spell healing
- Summon Incubus, learned at level 20, adds a second Sayaad demon alongside the Succubus
- Spell levels moved: Curse of the Elements is now learned at level 20 instead of 32, Soulstone arrives at level 18, Create Firestone at 28, Hellfire and Summon Felhunter at 30, and Create Spellstone at 36, while level 60 brings Bane of Doom, Ritual of Doom, and Portal of Summoning, a channeled group ritual with a 2-minute cooldown
- Soul Shards are stored in a dedicated reagent bag, wands no longer gain Spell Power, and healing items add damage equal to one-third of their bonus healing
- Trolls can now be Warlocks, one of six new race and class combinations
Warlock Specs in WoW Forever
All three Warlock specs keep their Classic identity, but each gains a new capstone and a reworked set of talents.
- Affliction is the damage-over-time spec, now built around Pandemic, which adds +33/67/100% critical strike damage to periodic spells, Malediction for extra periodic damage, and Wrack, a new Shadow damage-over-time that makes the target take 10% more damage from your other Shadow DoTs
- Demonology becomes a pet-focused spec, where Demonic Pact lets you keep a Demonic Sacrifice bonus while summoning a different demon, Soul Link redirects 30% of the damage you take to your demon, and Demonic Knowledge adds spell damage based on your level while a demon is active
- Destruction gains Incinerate as its capstone filler, which deals 25% more damage against targets afflicted by Immolate, with Ruin, Conflagrate, Shadow and Flame, and Bane of Havoc for burst damage and cleave
Warlock Talents in WoW Forever
The three Warlock talent trees keep their Classic layout and 51-point budget at level 60, but more than a dozen Classic talents were removed, many were reworked or moved, and a set of new talents was added.

Best Warlock Profession in WoW Forever
The strongest profession pairing for most Warlocks is Tailoring and Enchanting, since together they craft several of the best pieces at levels 20 and 30 and keep a caster in cloth upgrades without spending gold.
- Tailoring + Enchanting: crafts leveling and early endgame cloth gear, tailoring banners add Spirit that helps Life Tap, and Enchanting has expanded recipes for staves, totems, and off-hands, including the crafted level-30 Greater Mystic Wand
- Alchemy + Herbalism: potions and buffs for mana and survivability, and an easy way to earn gold
- Engineering: new trinkets and schematics that fit a caster, along with bombs and gadgets
- First Aid is valuable on a class that spends its own health on Life Tap, and Cooking adds stat food for every spec
Warlock Equipment in WoW Forever
Warlocks wear Cloth armor from level 1 and can't use Shields or Relics.

Warlock Stat Priorities
Each Warlock spec follows its own stat priority order, listed from most to least valuable below.
|
Spec |
Stat Priority |
|---|---|
|
Affliction |
Spell Power > Hit Rating > Critical Strike > Intellect > Spirit > Haste > Stamina (periodic spells now benefit from critical strikes) |
|
Demonology |
Spell Power > Hit Rating > Intellect > Spirit > Critical Strike > Stamina > Haste (Spirit also strengthens Life Tap and your demon) |
|
Destruction |
Spell Power > Hit Rating > Haste > Critical Strike > Intellect > Stamina > Spirit (Haste speeds up direct casts, and Critical Strike gains value with 5/5 Ruin) |
Hit Rating only matters up to the spell hit cap, and 3 of the 5 Suppression ranks already provide 3% of it, while Stamina matters because Life Tap and Soul Link both spend health.
Warlock Races in WoW Forever
Warlock plays as Human or Gnome on the Alliance side and Orc, Undead, or Troll on the Horde side, while Dwarf, Night Elf, Skyborne, and Tauren cannot be Warlocks.
- Human (Alliance): Sword Specialization adds 2% critical strike chance with swords, which helps Shadow Bolt builds, Will to Survive breaks stuns, and bonus Spirit improves Life Tap
- Gnome (Alliance): Escape Artist is now instant with a 2-minute cooldown, Eureka! cuts the mana cost of the next 3 damaging abilities by 10% and boosts them, and a larger mana pool supports Life Tap
- Orc (Horde): Blood Fury raises Attack Power and Spell Power by 10% for 15 seconds, Shatter Curse removes curses and Banes and, for 8 seconds, grants immunity to them and 15% reduced magic damage, and pets gain critical strike chance
- Undead (Horde): Will of the Forsaken breaks fear, charm, and sleep, and Touch of the Grave gives attacks and spells a chance to leech health, up to 5% with a 1-second cooldown
- Troll (Horde): new for Warlocks; Berserking raises casting and attack speed by 10%, Beast Slaying adds extra damage against Beasts, and Rapid Regeneration restores 50% of your health over 6 seconds
What is the Best Race for Warlock
Orc is the strongest Horde pick, since Blood Fury is the biggest damage burst available and Shatter Curse helps against caster pressure, while Gnome and Human lead the Alliance options: Gnome for Eureka! and a larger mana pool, and Human for Sword Specialization and a PvP-friendly toolkit. Undead is the top Horde PvP pick for breaking crowd control, and Troll is a solid caster choice through Berserking.
