World of Warcraft Forever Shaman Class Guide
This World of Warcraft Forever Shaman overview covers everything that changed for the class. It covers the Shaman's strengths and weaknesses, the systemic class changes that apply to every spec, how Elemental, Enhancement, and Restoration each evolved, the talent changes across all three trees, the best professions and gear priorities, and which races make the strongest Shamans.
WoW Forever Shaman Strengths and Weaknesses
The Shaman's core strengths are the freedom to play ranged damage, melee damage, or healing and a totem toolkit that is now much easier to manage, while its main weaknesses are the lack of a tank spec and heavy mana and ability management.
Strengths:
- Three real roles in one class: Elemental for ranged damage, Enhancement for melee damage, and Restoration for healing
- A stronger totem system with longer durations and spells that place several totems at once
- Strong self-sufficiency through Ghost Wolf for movement, Reincarnation for self-resurrection, and Purge and Earth Shock for utility
- Intellect now feeds both melee and spell damage, so gear choices are more flexible than in Classic
Weaknesses:
- No dedicated tank spec
- Many abilities and totems to manage, and totem positioning matters for the group
- Mana is a constraint in every spec, Shocks share a cooldown, and many spells have long cast times with no hard crowd control to cover them
- Several of the best talents sit deep in the trees, so the early levels feel weaker than the late ones
Shaman Class Changes in WoW Forever
Shaman receives eight systemic changes in WoW Forever that apply to every spec, mostly aimed at making totems and mobility less tedious.
- Totem durations now run for 5 minutes for support totems instead of 2, while Grounding and Earthbind last 45 seconds, Magma 20, Stoneclaw 15, and Mana Tide 12
- Call of the Elements, Call of the Ancestors, and Call of the Spirits, learned at levels 20, 30, and 40, drop four totems with a single 3-second cast, and the totem bar lets you choose which totems each call places
- Totemic Recall, learned at level 20, returns your totems and refunds 25% of their mana cost, and Totemic Projection, learned at level 22, moves them to a new spot on a 1-minute cooldown
- Fire Nova, learned at level 12, is now an instant spell with a 10-second cooldown that deals 48 to 56 Fire damage at its first rank to enemies within 10 yards of your active Fire totem instead of being a totem itself
- Ghost Wolf, learned at level 20, has a 40% speed bonus, and Improved Ghost Wolf makes it castable indoors and cuts the cast time by up to 3 seconds, which makes it instant at rank 2
- Lightning Bolt now casts faster, with ranks 4 to 10 taking 2.5 seconds, half a second less than in Classic, and ranks 3 and 4 deal more damage so every new rank is a clear upgrade, and Intellect now fuels melee and spell damage, while Expertise replaces weapon skill and hit and critical strike apply to melee, ranged, and spells alike
- Dwarves can now be Shamans on the Alliance side, and Windshaper Skyborne join the Horde roster
- Totem stacking is tighter: Tranquil Air, Windfury, and Grace of Air Totems no longer stack even when cast by different Shamans, Flametongue Totem has no duration and cannot stack with itself, Flametongue Weapon, or Windfury Totem, and Disease Cleansing Totem lasts 5 minutes
Shaman Specs in WoW Forever
All three Shaman specs keep their Classic identity, but each gains a new capstone and a reworked set of talents.
- Elemental gains Lava Burst as its 31-point capstone, a spell with a 2.5-second cast and a 10-second cooldown that deals 20% more damage while Flame Shock is on the target, and Lightning Overload, which gives Lightning Bolt and Chain Lightning a chance to repeat for free at half damage; Fire Nova, Elemental Alacrity, and a five-rank Elemental Fury round out the kit
- Enhancement becomes a spell-and-melee hybrid built around slow two-handed weapons, with Mental Dexterity turning Intellect into Attack Power, Maelstrom Weapon turning melee hits into faster, cheaper Lightning Bolts, and Rage of the Farseer as a Bloodlust-style haste cooldown for the Shaman alone on a 3-minute cooldown, while Windfury Weapon arrives at level 30
- Restoration gains Riptide, an instant heal with a heal-over-time that can critically strike and strengthens Chain Heal by 25%, along with Water Shield for mana recovery and Mindfulness for regeneration during combat
Shaman Talents in WoW Forever
The three Shaman talent trees keep their Classic layout and 51-point budget at level 60, but eight talents were removed, many were moved between rows, and a set of new talents was added. Each capstone, Lava Burst, Rage of the Farseer, and Riptide, needs 30 points in the earlier rows of its tree, which leaves 20 points to spend at level 60.

Best Shaman Profession in WoW Forever
The strongest profession pairing for most Shamans is Leatherworking and Skinning, since it supplies leveling gear from materials you gather yourself and later covers the mail armor Shamans gain at level 40.
- Leatherworking + Skinning: crafts leveling and pre-raid armor from leather you gather yourself, and Leatherworking's Camp Tent grants a Rested XP buff
- Blacksmithing + Mining: the natural choice for Enhancement, since crafted two-handed weapons fill early gaps
- Engineering + Mining: the usual PvP choice, adding grenades and gadgets, with crafted totems among the new recipes
- Alchemy + Herbalism: new buff and combat recipes plus mana potions, which every Shaman spec burns through
- Tailoring supplies cloth pieces for Restoration, while First Aid and Cooking are cheap additions for any spec
Shaman Equipment in WoW Forever
Shamans wear Cloth and Leather armor from level 1, Mail from level 40, and can use Shields.

Maces, Staves, and Shields are known by default. Axes, Daggers, Fist Weapons, and the two-handed versions of Axes and Maces are learned from trainers starting at level 11, since the removed Two-Handed Axes and Maces talent no longer gates them.
Shaman Stat Priorities
Each Shaman spec follows its own stat priority order, listed from most to least valuable below.
|
Spec |
Stat Priority |
|---|---|
|
Elemental |
Spell Power > Hit Rating > Haste > Intellect > Critical Strike |
|
Enhancement |
Weapon Damage > Hit Rating / Expertise > Critical Strike > Strength > Intellect |
|
Restoration |
Healing Power > Intellect > Mana per 5 Seconds > Spirit > Haste > Critical Strike |
Intellect keeps its value for Enhancement as well, because Mental Dexterity converts up to 100% of it into Attack Power and Mental Quickness converts up to 30% of it into spell damage and healing.
Shaman Races in WoW Forever
Shaman plays as Dwarf on the Alliance side, and as Orc, Tauren, Troll, or Windshaper Skyborne on the Horde side.
- Dwarf (Alliance): the only Alliance option; Stoneform removes bleeds, poisons, and diseases while reducing physical damage taken, and Mace Specialization adds critical strike chance
- Orc (Horde): Blood Fury raises Attack Power and spell power for a burst window, Hardiness shortens stuns, and Axe Specialization adds critical strike chance with axes
- Tauren (Horde): War Stomp provides crowd control, and Endurance now adds hit chance on top of extra health
- Troll (Horde): Berserking raises attack and casting speed, and the race deals extra damage against Beasts
- Windshaper Skyborne (Horde): passive Haste suits casters, and gliding adds mobility
What is the Best Race for Shaman
Orc is the strongest pick for Enhancement, since Blood Fury and Axe Specialization both feed its two-handed melee burst, while Troll leads for the caster specs through Berserking and Skyborne is a close alternative for its passive Haste. Tauren is the choice for War Stomp and a larger health pool, and Dwarf is simply the best Alliance option because it is the only one.
