World of Warcraft Forever Hunter Class Guide
This World of Warcraft Forever Hunter overview covers everything that changed for the class. It covers the Hunter's strengths and weaknesses, the systemic class changes that apply to every spec, how Beast Mastery, Marksmanship, and Survival each evolved, the talent changes across all three trees, the best professions and gear priorities, and which races make the strongest Hunters.
WoW Forever Hunter Strengths and Weaknesses
The Hunter's core strengths are its solo leveling speed and its identity as the game's only non-caster ranged DPS, while its main weaknesses are positioning demands and a reliance on gear and pet management that other ranged classes don't share.
Strengths:
- Among the easiest classes to level solo, thanks to a pet that can tank or add damage while the Hunter kites and shoots
- The only ranged physical DPS class, dealing damage from range without spending Mana
- A deep utility kit: traps (now usable mid-combat), tracking, Misdirection, and multiple crowd-control options
- Pets now scale directly with the Hunter's own stats, inheriting a share of Attack Power and Critical Strike Chance, so gearing the Hunter also gears the pet
Weaknesses:
- The Hunter's melee dead zone, roughly up to 8 yards, creates an awkward gap where neither ranged nor melee attacks land cleanly
- Pet control takes practice, and a mismanaged pet can pull extra enemies or lose uptime
- Each spec now wants a different approach: Beast Mastery and Marksmanship stay ranged while Survival has shifted into a genuine melee playstyle, so gear and stat priorities no longer transfer cleanly between all three specs
Hunter Class Changes in WoW Forever
Several systemic changes apply to every Hunter spec, centered on pets, traps, and the baseline shot rotation.
- Pets now scale with the Hunter's own stats, gaining a share of Attack Power from Agility and inheriting a portion of the Hunter's Critical Strike Chance, so upgrading the Hunter's own gear also upgrades the pet
- Traps are now usable in combat, removing the old requirement to disengage or Feign Death before setting one
- Auto Shot has been reworked so it reliably fires on its own timer without the player needing to manually clip or manage it
- Aimed Shot is now a baseline ability available to every Hunter rather than a talent investment, and it shares a cooldown with Multi-Shot
- Pet Focus now regenerates fluidly instead of in fixed chunks, smoothing out the pet's attack rhythm. Aggressive Mode is back on the pet tab of the spellbook, Furious Howl's Attack Power bonus was cut by 40%, bats gain Sonic Blast, and Tame Beast can no longer target beasts above the Hunter's level
Hunter Specs in WoW Forever
Beast Mastery and Marksmanship keep their Classic ranged identity with pet and precision-focused updates, while Survival receives the most dramatic change of any Hunter spec.
- Beast Mastery keeps its Classic pet-driven identity but raises the ceiling on pet value, and adds Summon Hawk, a talent that calls in a temporary hawk companion to attack alongside the Hunter's main pet for a limited time
- Marksmanship stays the most dedicated ranged weapon spec, adding Sniper Shot as a capstone ability — a heavy-hitting shot with a lengthy cast time — alongside the Lone Wolf talent, which rewards going petless with a flat damage increase
- Survival is completely redesigned into a genuine melee spec, built around the new Strider Kick ability and talents like Expose Prey and Lacerating Strikes that turn Mongoose Bite into the spec's signature hard-hitting attack
Hunter Talents in WoW Forever
The three Hunter talent trees keep their Classic layout and 51-point budget at level 60, but several talents were reworked, a large wave of new talents was added, and a matching set of Classic talents was removed or folded into those new slots.

Best Hunter Profession in WoW Forever
The strongest profession pairing for Hunters is Skinning and Leatherworking, since it lets a Hunter gather materials while killing beasts on the move and craft strong gear early in the game.
- Skinning + Leatherworking: gathers materials while killing beasts on the move and crafts strong armor early, one of the most natural pairings for Hunter
- Engineering + Mining: crafts ammunition, scopes, and trinkets that boost ranged damage directly, with Mining doubling as a steady gold source
- Alchemy + Herbalism: supplies potions and flasks for burst damage and sustain during both leveling and endgame content
- Cooking is a natural secondary pick, since hunting supplies the meat and gathering supplies the herbs, so a Hunter can keep stat-boosting food stocked at almost no cost
Hunter Equipment in WoW Forever
Hunters wear Cloth or Leather armor from level 1 and can train Mail armor at level 40. They can't use Shields or Relics.

Hunter Stat Priorities
Weapon damage leads the Hunter's stat priority in every spec, since every shot and swing scales directly off it, with Agility close behind for its Attack Power and Critical Strike conversion, and for Beast Mastery it also raises the pet's attack power. Hit Rating matters most once you have damage that has to land on a boss, so treat it as a target to reach rather than a stat to chase early, since starting gear carries very little of it.
|
Spec |
Stat Priority |
|---|---|
|
Beast Mastery / Marksmanship (Ranged) |
Ranged Weapon Damage > Agility > Hit Rating (9% ranged hit cap vs. bosses) > Critical Strike > Intellect (via Careful Aim) > Spirit > Stamina |
|
Survival (Melee) |
Melee Weapon Damage > Agility > Hit Rating / Expertise (melee) > Strength > Critical Strike > Intellect (via Careful Aim) > Spirit > Stamina |
Hunter Races in WoW Forever
Hunter's best races split by spec: Tauren and Human lead for the ranged specs, while Troll and Dwarf take over for the melee-focused Survival spec.
- Tauren (Horde): Plainsrunning grants 30% movement speed starting at level 1, making Tauren the strongest Horde pick for Beast Mastery and Marksmanship
- Human (Alliance): Will to Survive breaks stuns without a trinket, and Sword Specialization adds 2% critical strike chance with Swords, making Human the strongest Alliance pick for Beast Mastery and Marksmanship
- Troll (Horde): Deals 5% increased damage to Beasts, Berserking grants a 10% attack speed burst, and Rapid Regeneration restores 50% health every 3 minutes, making Troll the preferred Horde pick for Survival
- Dwarf (Alliance): Mace Specialization adds 1% critical strike chance with Maces, Stoneform reduces incoming damage, and a bonus against Beasts makes Dwarf a strong Alliance pick for both Beast Mastery and Survival
- Skyborne (Alliance and Horde): Both variants add passive Haste, giving every spec a flat damage boost
What is the Best Race for Hunter
Tauren is the strongest pick for ranged Hunters, since Plainsrunning's 30% movement speed from level 1 helps with kiting and leveling across Beast Mastery and Marksmanship, while Troll overtakes it for Survival thanks to its bonus Beast damage and Berserking's attack speed burst suiting melee uptime. On Alliance, Human is the top pick for the ranged specs via Will to Survive and Sword Specialization, while Dwarf edges ahead for Survival thanks to Mace Specialization and its bonus against Beasts. Skyborne remains viable on either faction for its flat Haste bonus, but it doesn't yet outperform these established picks.
