World of Warcraft Forever Rogue Class Guide
This World of Warcraft Forever Rogue overview covers everything that changed for the class. It covers the Rogue's strengths and weaknesses, the systemic class changes that apply to every spec, how Assassination, Combat, and Subtlety each evolved, the talent changes across all three trees, the best professions and gear priorities, and which races make the strongest Rogues.
WoW Forever Rogue Strengths and Weaknesses
The Rogue's core strengths are very high melee damage that scales quickly with gear and the strongest stealth and crowd control toolkit in the game, while its main weaknesses are almost no self-healing and a heavy dependence on gear and Energy management.
Strengths:
- Very high damage output across all three specs, now backed by Poisons that scale with Attack Power, can critically strike, and stack with sharpening stones and Windfury Totem
- A full control kit: Stealth, Sap, Cheap Shot, Gouge, Blind, Kick, Kidney Shot, and Vanish let a Rogue open fights, interrupt casters, and escape bad pulls
- Combo Points are far less punishing on target swaps than in Classic, since points carry over to the next target
- Strong scaling with levels: the class starts slowly but gains power quickly as gear and talents come online
Weaknesses:
- Almost no self-healing beyond bandages, Evasion, and Vanish, which makes long multi-target fights risky
- Performance depends heavily on gear quality, so a Rogue without good weapons and armor falls behind quickly
- Every spec is melee, so positioning matters, and wasted Energy from overcapping directly costs damage
- No fixed rotation, but damage depends on keeping Slice and Dice active, watching Energy, and constantly rebuilding combo points, so lapses in upkeep cost damage quickly
- Several of the best talents sit deep in the trees, so the early levels feel weaker than the late ones
Rogue Class Changes in WoW Forever
Rogue receives seven systemic changes in WoW Forever that apply to every spec, smoothing out Combo Point, Energy, and Poison friction without changing the class's identity.
- Combo Points are no longer lost when you change targets; they carry over until you build points on the new target
- Energy now regenerates continuously instead of in fixed ticks, which rewards faster ability use
- Poisons are learned from level 20 and support every spec, not just Assassination: they scale with Attack Power, benefit from critical strike chance, and can run alongside sharpening stones and Windfury Totem; Instant Poison now carries 60 charges
- One-Handed Axes can now be equipped by Rogues and are taught by weapon trainers
- Sap no longer breaks Stealth, and it now flags the Rogue for PvP when used on a PvP-flagged target
- Expose Armor, learned at level 14, no longer costs all of your Combo Points when it misses
- Weapon specializations for daggers, swords, fist weapons, and maces were merged into one talent, Hack and Slash, with a different bonus for each weapon family
Rogue Specs in WoW Forever
All three Rogue specs keep their Classic identity, but each gains a new signature tool and a reworked set of talents.
- Assassination gains Mutilate, a dual-wield dagger attack worth 75% weapon damage plus 17 per weapon that deals 20% more to poisoned targets and awards 2 Combo Points, and Venom, a finisher that raises Poison damage by 30% and application chance by 10% for 9 to 21 seconds depending on Combo Points
- Combat is built around weapon damage and now has Hack and Slash, which lets axes and swords trigger extra attacks, daggers and fist weapons gain critical strike chance, and maces ignore armor; Flawless Execution makes Eviscerate cheaper, and Blade Flurry and Adrenaline Rush remain its burst cooldowns
- Subtlety gets the largest rework, centered on Hemorrhage and Rupture: Hemorrhage makes the target take 15% more Rupture damage, and Thousand Cuts lowers the Energy cost of Hemorrhage and Backstab every time Rupture ticks, while Quietus and Cutthroat reward finishing low-health targets and opening with Ambush, learned at level 18 and usable only with a dagger, even without Stealth
Rogue Talents in WoW Forever
The three Rogue talent trees keep their Classic layout and 51-point budget at level 60, but weapon specializations were merged into a single talent, several talents moved between trees, and a set of new talents was added.

Best Rogue Profession in WoW Forever
The strongest profession pairing for most Rogues is Leatherworking and Skinning, since it supplies leather for cheap crafted gear while leveling and yields strong pre-raid armor later.
- Leatherworking + Skinning: crafts leveling gear from leather you gather yourself, and Leatherworking's Camp Tent grants a Rested XP buff
- Engineering + Mining: the usual PvP choice, adding grenades and gadgets that stack extra control on top of Sap and Blind
- Alchemy + Herbalism: Stealth makes gathering herbs safe, and the potions fill the Rogue's lack of self-healing
- First Aid is unusually valuable on a class with no healing spells, and Cooking adds stat food for every spec
Rogue Equipment in WoW Forever
Rogues wear Cloth and Leather armor from level 1 and can't use Shields or Relics.

Rogue Stat Priorities
Each Rogue spec follows its own stat priority order, listed from most to least valuable below.
|
Spec |
Stat Priority |
|---|---|
|
Assassination |
Agility > Critical Strike > Weapon Damage > Attack Power > Stamina (Poisons now benefit from critical strike chance and Attack Power) |
|
Combat |
Weapon Damage > Hit Rating / Expertise > Agility > Attack Power > Critical Strike > Strength > Stamina |
|
Subtlety |
Weapon Damage > Hit Rating > Expertise > Agility > Critical Strike > Strength > Stamina |
Special attacks need 9% hit chance against raid bosses, and Precision supplies 3% of that, so the rest has to come from gear.
Rogue Races in WoW Forever
Rogue plays as Human, Dwarf, Night Elf, Gnome, or Skyborne on the Alliance side and Orc, Undead, Troll, or Skyborne on the Horde side, and Tauren cannot be Rogues.
- Human (Alliance): Sword Specialization adds 2% critical strike chance with swords, Will to Survive breaks stuns, and Perception detects stealthed enemies
- Dwarf (Alliance): Stoneform removes bleeds and poisons while reducing physical damage taken, Mace Specialization adds 1% critical strike chance with maces, and Find Treasure and Big Game Hunter are its utility racials
- Night Elf (Alliance): Elune's Light grants 10% critical strike chance for 15 seconds, Shadowmeld now works in combat, and Quickness adds 1% Dodge and 2% movement speed
- Gnome (Alliance): Escape Artist frees the Rogue from roots and snares, Eureka! boosts the next 3 abilities by 10%, and Expansive Mind adds 5% maximum Energy
- Skyborne (Alliance): Walk on Air and Wind Blessed add gliding and passive Haste, but the race adds little to a Rogue's specific toolkit
- Orc (Horde): Blood Fury grants 10% Attack Power for 15 seconds, Hardiness shortens stuns by 20%, and Axe Specialization pairs with Hack and Slash
- Undead (Horde): Will of the Forsaken breaks fear, charm, and sleep, Cannibalize restores health from corpses, and Touch of the Grave gives attacks a chance to drain health
- Troll (Horde): Berserking raises attack speed by 10% for 10 seconds, which pairs well with Slice and Dice, and Rapid Regeneration helps reset between fights
- Skyborne (Horde): Shares Walk on Air and Wind Blessed with its Alliance counterpart, plus Skysight for movement speed
What is the Best Race for Rogue
Orc is the strongest Horde pick, since Blood Fury is the biggest damage burst available and Hardiness cuts stun time, while Gnome and Human lead the Alliance options: Gnome for Eureka! and a larger Energy pool in PvE, and Human for Sword Specialization and Perception in PvP. Night Elf is the choice for burst windows through Elune's Light, Undead is the top Horde PvP pick for breaking crowd control, and Skyborne is viable on either faction but doesn't yet outperform these established picks.
